At IDorganics, we believe fair trade is at least as important as the fact that our products are organic. We must not only be good for the earth, but also for the people who grow and process our products. That is why we are increasingly opting for projects that have organic as well as fair trade certifications. For example, did you know that our SUN coffee has been certified fair trade and certified organic for years?

Of course we produce sustainably, we buy directly from farmers as much as possible and we offer more and more local products. But we also work with a diverse team, in which we make room for people with disabilities.

Because whether it concerns farmers in faraway places, customers at home and abroad, or our employees in Zaandam; everyone connected to IDorganics is unique.

That's why we help tell the stories of the people who share our passion for organic food, together with background information about the natural origin of our ingredients.

Cafe Femenino

Most coffee comes from countries in Central and South America, and Africa. Although women do an important part of the work, unfortunately, we see all too often that proceeds do not benefit them. Most communities in coffee-producing countries are dominated by men. There is often a macho culture, which manifests into abuse, sexual repression and abandonment of women and daughters. It is an almost impossible task for the women in these communities to break this cycle alone. Café Femenino proves that it is possible.

Sailed coffee

Sailed Coffee is no ordinary coffee. This coffee is transported by sailing ship from Colombia to Amsterdam and is then roasted in our roastery in Zaandam. The coffee is produced in partnership with Cooagronevada, a Colombian cooperative known for its commitment to organic farming practices, fair trade, and women's welfare. This cooperative mainly focuses on improving the quality of life of women, their families and the communities to which they belong.

For shipping the coffee to the Netherlands, we are working with Kaap Kargo from Amsterdam. Their ship the Ide Min was originally an East German tugboat from 1957, that has been converted into a sailing ship that can transport 60 tons of cargo across the world's oceans.

Energy-neutral oat milk chocolate

For some time now, we have been making our own chocolate based on our own recipes for milk and dark chocolate. In addition, we wanted to meet the demand of various customers to also produce plant-based milk chocolate. It took a lot of research and time to come up with a tasty and stable vegan oat milk chocolate. But we did it and we are very proud of it!

The IDorganics chocolate production line is supplied with energy by a heat pump installation. Jetse Schokker: "I thought it was important to produce our chocolate as energy-neutral as possible. Now both the chocolate production line and the chocolate coating machines run on this heat pump installation and we like it very much."

Our oat milk chocolate is vegan and deliciously creamy in taste. We also use oat milk chocolate for the coating of products such as organic raisins, nuts and freeze-dried fruit. We also sell the chocolate in the form of chunks.

Dutch pumpkin seeds

Dutch organic pumpkin cultivation is excellent for biodiversity. The pumpkins can be grown once every four years on the same piece of land, with the practice of circular crop rotation. Bee colonies help with fertilization, and the flesh of the pumpkins remains on the land after harvesting, so that the nutrients benefit the soil.

It’s easy to distinguish our Dutch pumpkin seeds by their size and colour: they are larger than Chinese pumpkin seeds and they are beautifully dark green in colour. We are happy to support Dutch horticulture.

Dutch Quinoa

For some time now, there has been a wonderful initiative for the cultivation of organic quinoa in our own country. The quinoa used is GMO-free and is grown sustainably without the use of pesticides. Growers also receive fair prices for the quinoa they grow.

Crop for the future
Due to global warming, summers in the Netherlands are getting warmer, which will make it difficult for some crops. Quinoa is a crop that can withstand heat and even dry and salinized soil. Quinoa needs little irrigation because the plant can easily access the groundwater thanks to its deep root system. As a bonus, these roots also help improve the structure of the soil.

The small 'waste stream' that is created is fermented into energy. This project makes clear that circular cultivation is possible. We wholeheartedly support this project, which is why we have decided to switch completely to organic quinoa from our own soil.
