Brown basmati rice originates from South East Asia. The rice has a long grain and a full taste. The word 'basmati' originates from Hindi and means 'fragrant'. The husk (outermost layer) is removed to expose the bran which is responsible for that chewy texture and nutty aroma. Rice is an excellent basis for all kinds of dishes, and there are countless varieties. Basmati rice is a dry-cooked rice, and is therefore delicious with curries.
